Types of coverage
Be sure to consider purchasing some form of travel insurance.
Many airlines offer you coverage at the time you make reservations with them On line hotel-reservation-companies may offer you a choice between a fully refundable rate and one that is only partially refundable or not at all. Of course fully refundable rates may still require you to cancel before a specified date in order to get that full refund.
Are you aware that when purchasing a Travel Insurance policy that some companies offer Frequent Flyer policies. They are valid for a year for as many trips as you might do in that period. One thing I have noted with New Zealand insurance companies, is that these trips you “might do” must not exceed 60 days per trip. I have yet to find someone who can explain WHY.
More interesting, the frequent-traveler type policy might actually come in less expensive than a policy covering just a one-off trip.
But if you choose no insurance coverage you may be gambling with the loss of a large chunk of money so think carefully, it might be worth the peace of mind.
